2021 > 94-95 puntos
The sample of the 2021 Quintanilla feels really energeticand nicely textured, with a fine thread on the palate and some austerity, similar to La Hoya (they are only 100 meters apart), but La Hoya is juicier and this is more serious and austere.
2020 > 93+ puntos
I also tasted the 2020 Quintanilla, a wine that looked really superb from barrel, floral, aromatic and elegant, with round tannins, fine-boned, balanced and harmonious. This is from a 1.99-hectare plot in Elvillar that was planted in 1951 on limestone and clay soils with a sandstone mother rock at some 75 centimeters from the top. It's very aromatic with notes of cinnamon, a lactic touch and a medium-bodied palate with very fine, abundant and chalky tannins. 2,500 bottles were filled in June 2021.
2019 > 93+ puntos
The bottled 2019 Quintanilla combines the power of the year and the place with 14.68% alcohol and soft acidity. There are more tannins, and it has the chalky sensation of the limestone. It also has notions of ripe berries and the characteristic of this year's wines, keeping the freshness. This is austere and mineral within the ripeness. It comes from a 1.13-hectare plot planted in 1951 in the village of Elvillar, a walled, old-vine plot located in what was the 15th-century village of San Lorenzo de Quintanilla on limestone and sandstone soils. The vineyard tends to produce powerful wines, and its grapes were always used to make the Pagos Viejos. It has some rugged tannins that give it a little rusticity, a character of the plot that tends to get stressed in warmer years. 2,800 bottles produced. It was bottled in June 2021.
2018 > 94 puntos
I finally tasted the bottled 2018 Quintanilla, from the 1.13-hectare plot planted in 1951 in the village of Elvillar on limestone and sandstone soils. It's balsamic with notes of aromatic herbs, lighter than the 2017 or 2019, with the benefit of a cooler vintage that tames the natural power. It does have the abundant chalky tannins and the long, tasty finish, with balance and elegance. The finest vintage since the debut in 2016. A vineyard that excels in cooler years. 2,800 bottles were filled in June 2020.
